COM 207 Tools and Techniques of the Digital Age

Class hours: 21

Credits (ECTS): 3

LM-CU Specialization in Communication Peace and Dialogue

Biennial: a.y. 2022-2024

Year: 2nd

Term: 2nd

Course held in Italian

The course aims to offer a “toolbox” – conceptual and as far as possible operational – to be able to carry out one’s profession, whatever it may be, understanding and using media tools, digital tools in particular, in order to arrive to have a reading of communication and of information that also draws inspiration from the charismatic thought of Chiara Lubich, Igino Giordani and Pasquale Foresi.

The course will therefore be divided into two parts, making use of frontal and participatory teaching and the contribution of some experts in the individual sectors. The first part will cover: the history of media and media theories; a critical presentation of media as a whole and taken individually with particular attention to digitally driven developments on old media and the emergence of new media; the psychological, economic, social, political and even spiritual implications of the generalized and prolonged use of the media, especially the digital ones. The second part will explore, through workshops, a chosen medium (press, TV, cinema) and a particular theme concerning that given medium.

Bibliographical references: will be provided during the course.

Final evaluation: Oral exam with written work of five pages to be agreed with the professor.
