Eco 219 Foundations of Civil and Sustainable Economy
Foundations of Civil and Sustainable Economy
Class hours: 42
Credits (ECTS): 6
Interdisciplinary Foundations in Culture of Unity
Biennial: a.y. 2022-2024
Year: 1st
Terms: 1st–2nd
Course held in English
The course introduces the student to the analysis of economic phenomena in a “civil” perspective, one that stresses the contribution the economy is called to give to the personal fulfillment of citizens and the common good of society. After situating Civil Economy within the evolution of economic thought and examining its defining principles, special attention is given to two domains in which the traditional economic vision needs to be enriched: interpersonal relationships, whose significance and implications, even from the economic viewpoint on reality, have been undervalued; and how economic activity interacts with the natural environment, a prominent instance of the need to overcome myopic individualistic logics.
