Course held in English

This course takes the perspective of top executives and looks at how firms can create economic value for society, and appropriate part of it, thereby making possible the firm’s continued existence. The main sections focus on how the firm can achieve superior performance in a specific business arena (business strategy), and in which arenas should the firm operate (corporate strategy). Collaborative strategies, including participation into networks, are also considered.
Students are led to integrate and apply their prior learning, and to develop expertise in the analysis of complex business situations. Special attention is paid to the specific viewpoints or needs of socially oriented enterprises, who are often involved in social innovation, make use of financial products targeted to their needs or those of their stakeholders and beneficiaries, and link sustainability issues with business operations in various ways.
