Promoted by the Work of Mary – Focolare Movement and with its headquarters in Loppiano (Figline e Incisa Valdarno, Florence), the Foundation was created as an operational tool working alongside the Sophia University Institute to support its growth and development.

The Foundation “For Sophia” allocates its resources to the Sophia University Institute, an important and innovative academic laboratory for training, study, and research. Sophia is a center for academic training and research, as well as a school of life. It is a laboratory where existence and thought, different cultures, and different disciplines come together in a context with a strong relational foundation that aims to be animated by wisdom and reciprocity. Conceived and founded by Chiara Lubich, promoted by the Work of Mary – Focolare Movement – Sophia was established by the Congregation for Catholic Education of the Holy See in 2007.
