The course aims to define the concept of person that emerges from scientific psychology through the contribution of different orientations. A brief general introduction to psychology and research methods, serves as background to the analysis of the main schools and to the discussion about “person” and “individual”. The theory of self-determination (Deci and Ryan, 2002) and the constructionistic approach of Vivien Burr (2002) will have particular space. The course also provides a comparison with the emerging approaches of positive psychology.
