Il corso mira a fornire strumenti concettuali e operativi fondamentali per impostare e condurre un percorso di ricerca empirica su specifici fenomeni sociali. Saranno presentati gli elementi fondanti i due principali paradigmi scientifici nelle scienze sociali, da cui derivano conseguentemente scelte metodologiche di tipo quantitativo e qualitativo e specifiche tecniche e strumenti di ricerca per la raccolta e l’analisi dei dati, tra cui: questionari, esperimenti, interviste qualitative, osservazione partecipante, uso di documenti.

Particolare attenzione sarà data anche agli sviluppi di approcci “terzi” (come la Social Network Analysis), che, tentando di porsi oltre olismo e individualismo metodologici, pongono a base delle loro analisi la relazione sociale, considerandola “molecola” prima della società, aprendo ad uno sguardo epistemologico adeguato ad una “analisi relazionale” della stessa.
