Course held in Italian

In the first part, we analyze the civilizations preceding modernity: civilization of hunter-gatherers and the so-called agrarian civilization. We study then the transition from the premodern times to the birth of modernity, drawing attention to some issues most relevant to Sociology. We then analyze the processes of individualization and “functional differentiation” in the Western world, and study the phenomenon of the relative domination of technical and scientific rationality.

In the second part of the course aims to provide basic knowledge about social relationships through the presentation of various sociological theories on the generative dynamics and analysis, in particular, of the perspective rooted in the concept of gift and in the category of love as expressed in the contemporary sociological debate.
