Il corso intende fornire strumenti concettuali e operativi fondamentali per impostare e condurre un percorso di ricerca empirica su specifici fenomeni sociali. Nella prima parte del corso saranno presentati i paradigmi scientifici nelle scienze sociali, da cui derivano conseguentemente metodi di ricerca rispettivamente quantitativi e qualitativi e specifici strumenti di raccolta dati connessi a ciascun metodo, come: questionari, esperimenti, interviste qualitative, osservazione partecipante, uso di documenti.
Nella seconda parte particolare attenzione sarà dedicata agli sviluppi di prospettive paradigmatiche “terze”, che, tentando di collocarsi tra olismo e individualismo, ponendo a base della loro analisi la relazione sociale e considerandola “molecola” prima della società, danno vita ad approcci metodologici originali come quello della Social Network Analysis, che costituirà argomento di particolare approfondimento anche attraverso un’esercitazione costituita da una breve esperienza di ricerca sul campo.
