The course is designed to introduce students to statistical concepts and methods applicable across the social sciences, with the aim of endowing them with basic knowledge and skills for the understanding and critical assessment of research work, and for conducting themselves some empirical analyses of economic phenomena. Students are required to apply what learned in theory to hypotheses testing and decision making drawing on real data, using a statistical package. The course includes an introduction on the foundations, the achievements, the challenges and the limits of scientific methodology in economics and business.
