Studies in Biblical Theology: JHWH, the God of Glory in the Torah, in the Prophets and in the Psalms

Teo 116 Studies in Biblical Theology: JHWH, the God of Glory in the Torah, in the Prophets and in the Psalms

Class hours: 21

Credits (ECTS): 3

LM-OTSpecialization in Theology

Year: 1st–2nd

Term: 3rd

Course held in Italian

The course aims to explore the notion of glory, kābôd in Hebrew, a very frequent term in the Bible, referring to God and mankind. In the light of the semantic field of the kābôd, typical of the book of Exodus, a biblical-theological reflection of the imposing revelation of YHWH as God of Glory will be presented. Characteristics of divine Glory will also be examined throughout the Scriptures. In particular, we will see how the textual articulations of the Glory of God is intertwined – in the book of Genesis and Exodus – with biblical themes of considerable importance such as the salvation of the humiliated and the birth of a new people, the lowering-raising movement that characterizes humanity touched by glory, and the will of the God of Israel to dwell among his people.
